* Estimate only, not an AWS invoice. Internet outbound is progressive across 4 tiers, after the first 100 GB a month, which AWS gives free. Same-Region and cross-Region rows use one flat rate each. Service-specific rates, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and Direct Connect are not included.

About the AWS Data Transfer Cost Estimator

With the rates stored in this tool, 60 TB (61,440 GB) of internet outbound traffic in a month costs $5,113.00, or $61,356.00 a year. The first 100 GB a month are free, which AWS states across all services and Regions, and the rest is charged tier by tier at the tool's stored rates, starting at $0.09 per GB for the first 10 TB.

How to use this tool

  1. Add a row for each direction: inbound to AWS, outbound to the same Region, outbound to another Region, or outbound to the internet.
  2. Enter the GB per month for each row. A blank row counts as 0.
  3. Read the cost breakdown, which shows the free allowance and each internet tier used, then the monthly and yearly totals.

Frequently asked questions

How much does AWS charge per GB for data transfer out to the internet?
AWS prices it in tiers that depend on your monthly total, and the price varies by Region and service. This tool stores $0.09 per GB for the first 10 TB after the free 100 GB, then $0.085 for the next 40 TB, $0.07 for the next 100 TB and $0.05 above 150 TB. 500 GB in a month therefore costs 400 × $0.09 = $36.00.
Does the 100 GB free allowance apply to each service?
No. The AWS EC2 pricing page says the 100 GB of free data transfer out to the internet each month is aggregated across all AWS services and Regions, except China and GovCloud. The tool takes it once from the sum of all your internet outbound rows.
Is inbound data transfer to AWS free?
Usually. AWS's pricing guide says that in most cases there is no charge for inbound data transfer, with some exceptions, and the tool charges $0 for inbound rows. Services that process traffic on its way in can bill their own per-GB fees, which the tool does not include.
How do I estimate a yearly data transfer cost?
For steady traffic, enter one month: the page multiplies it by 12, so 500 GB a month to the internet costs $36.00 a month and $432.00 a year. For traffic that varies, run each month on its own and add them up, because the free 100 GB and the tiers apply per month. Eleven months of 50 GB and one of 5,550 GB cost $490.50 in all, because only the busy month passes the free 100 GB; the same 6,100 GB spread evenly would cost $441.00.
Why can my AWS bill be different from this estimate?
The tool has no per-service rates and none for CloudFront, NAT gateways or Direct Connect, no discounts such as Savings Plans, and one flat rate each for same-Region and cross-Region rows. AWS says transfers above 500 TB a month need contact with its sales team, while the tool prices everything above 150 TB at the last tier.
