Cooking Measurement Converter

Convert between volume (cups, tbsp, tsp, ml, fl oz), weight (g, oz), and ingredient amounts for cooking and baking. Includes density table for water, milk, flour, sugar, butter, oil, and honey.

Applications

Scaling recipe quantities up or down for dinner parties and meal prep, converting between volume (cups, ml) and weight (grams, ounces) for common cooking ingredients, adapting American recipes with volume-based ingredient lists to weight-based measuring tools used outside the US, and baking with precision across different measurement systems.

Conversion Logic

Volume conversions use standard US definitions: 1 cup = 236.588 ml, 1 tbsp = 14.7868 ml, 1 tsp = 4.92892 ml, 1 fl oz = 29.5735 ml. Weight conversions use 1 oz = 28.3495 g. Volume-to-weight (ingredient) conversions multiply the volume in ml by an ingredient-specific density value (g/ml): water 1.0, milk 1.03, all-purpose flour 0.53, granulated sugar 0.85, butter 0.959, cooking oil 0.92, honey 1.42.

Fun Fact: A “cup” of flour can weigh anywhere from 4 to 5 ounces (113 to 142 grams) depending on how it is scooped and whether it is sifted, which is why professional bakers always weigh their ingredients. The Cooking Measurement Converter removes this guesswork by using standard density values for each ingredient.
