Applications
Estimate glass panel weight for shipping logistics, structural load calculations, and determining handling requirements. Useful for glazing contractors, architects, and DIY window replacement projects.
Glass Weight Formula
Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Glass Density. Annealed and tempered glass have a density of ~2.50 g/cm³. Laminated glass (with PVB interlayer) is slightly lighter at ~2.48 g/cm³. The formula works for any panel shape by computing the volume and multiplying by density.
Fun Fact: The largest single pane of glass ever made was over 20 meters wide — weighing nearly 6 metric tons! Modern glass manufacturing can produce sheets up to 3.3m × 20m.
