- How do I convert hp to kW?
- Multiply horsepower by 0.745699872 (about 0.7457) for mechanical horsepower: 100 hp is 74.57 kW. Use 0.73549875 for metric hp (PS), 0.746 for electric hp and 9.8095 for boiler hp.

- A heat rate for boilers, not an engine rating: the 1884 definition is the output needed to evaporate 34.5 lb of water per hour from and at 212 °F, 33,469 Btu/h or 9.809 kW. This tool uses 9.8095 kW. Current industrial practice defines it as 33,475 Btu/h, 9.811 kW. 100 boiler hp is 980.95 kW here.
- Which horsepower should I choose?
- Use the type that the source names, such as PS for metric horsepower. If a rating only says hp, the choice between mechanical and electric changes the result by 0.04%, and metric changes it by 1.4%. The table shows all four so you can see the spread.
- Why does 0.001 hp show 0.000746 kW?
- Results show two decimals from 0.01 up. Below that the converter shows three significant figures, so a small value is not rounded to 0.00.
