Love Calculator

Two names in, a love percentage from 1 to 100 out, worked out only from the letters of the names. A game for fun that measures nothing about the two people. How it works

How the percentage is made

A novelty for fun: the percentage comes from the characters in the two names with a fixed formula. It says nothing about you or your partner.

Both names are trimmed and lower-cased, joined, and their characters sorted (so neither the order of the names nor of the letters matters; anagrams give the same number). A 32-bit hash of that sorted text, taken modulo 100 plus 1, gives a whole number from 1 to 100. The same two names always give the same result, and there is no research or psychology behind it.

About the Love Calculator

Type two names and the love calculator gives a love percentage from 1 to 100 worked out only from their letters, with a playful line under it. Alice and Bob get 6%, in either order. It is a game: the same two names always give the same number, and it says nothing about the two people.

What changes the percentage and what does not

First nameSecond nameResult
AliceBob6%
BobAlice6%
ALICEbob6%
RomeoJuliet38%
ElvisLives85%

Order, capital letters and anagrams make no difference, because the characters are sorted before the hash.

91 to 100Soulmates, by the letters. ❤️
76 to 90Great chemistry. A beautiful bond. ✨
51 to 75Good potential. There's a spark. 🕯️
26 to 50It's Complicated. Needs some work. 🧐
1 to 25Just friends, say the letters. 🧊

The line depends only on the percentage band, so it is as random as the number itself.

Frequently asked questions

What does a low love calculator score mean?
Nothing about the two people. A score of 25 or less shows the line Just friends, say the letters, but the number only reflects how the sorted letters of the two names hash. Add one letter and it can land anywhere: Alice and Bob get 6%, while Alicia and Bob get 95%.
How does the love calculator work?
Alice and Bob are lower-cased and joined, and their characters sorted into abbceilo. A 32-bit hash of that text is 1,230,124,105; 1,230,124,105 mod 100 is 5, and adding 1 gives 6%.
Why do I get the same result when I swap the names?
The characters of both names are sorted before the hash, so neither the order of the names nor the order of letters within them matters: Bob and Alice give 6% just as Alice and Bob do, and so does any anagram.
Can I share my love calculator result?
Copy link to this result copies the page address with both names in it (name1 and name2), and opening the link fills the two fields. Anyone who sees the link can read the names in it.
