Where each form turns up

Design apps and screen color pickers often report three numbers, such as R 255, G 136, B 0, while brand guides, HTML email templates and most style sheets use the hex code. Both mean the same color in CSS: color: #FF8800 and color: rgb(255, 136, 0) render identically. Type the channels, move the sliders or choose a color in the swatch picker to get the code; to go the other way, paste a hex code into the hex field and the channels fill in.

From channels to a hex code

Each channel, 0 to 255, is written as two hexadecimal digits, red first: #RRGGBB, where a channel value = first digit × 16 + second digit.

Example: rgb(255, 136, 0) gives 255 = FF, 136 = 8 × 16 + 8 = 88 and 0 = 00, so #FF8800.
