Solar Panel Angle Optimizer

Find the optimal tilt angle and azimuth for solar panels based on latitude. Compare fixed-mount, seasonal-adjust, and year-round optimal setups.

Applications

Optimize solar panel installation angles for residential rooftops, commercial solar farms, off-grid cabins, and DIY solar projects. Used by installers, homeowners, and renewable energy enthusiasts to maximize energy harvest throughout the year.

The Angle Formula

Fixed mount tilt equals the absolute latitude. Seasonal adjust uses latitude −15° for summer and latitude +15° for winter. Year-round optimal uses latitude × 0.9. Azimuth is 180° true south in the northern hemisphere and 0° true north in the southern hemisphere, based on standard solar geometry.

Fun Fact: The optimal tilt angle for solar panels was first studied by NASA in the 1970s for satellite power systems. Adjusting tilt seasonally can boost winter production by up to 25% at high latitudes!
