Applications
Perfect for homeowners, renters, and energy-conscious users who want to understand standby power costs. Helps identify high-vampire-draw devices and estimate potential savings from smart power strips.
The Formula
Uses the formula: daily_kwh = (num_devices × watts_per_device × hours_per_day) / 1000. Costs are derived by multiplying kWh by your electricity rate. CO2 calculated using EPA eGRID 2023 factor of 0.386 kg CO2/kWh.
Fun Fact: Vampire power accounts for an estimated 5-10% of residential electricity use in the U.S. according to Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Typical culprits include TVs, game consoles, computers, and phone chargers.
