Applications
Plan your CD ladder investment strategy by splitting your money across multiple certificates of deposit with different maturity dates. Use this tool to compare blended yields, estimate monthly interest income, and project total returns across a customized ladder of 2 to 10 rungs.
CD Ladder Strategy
A CD ladder spreads your investment across CDs with staggered maturities. Each rung’s future value is calculated using A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt) with monthly compounding (n=12). The blended APY is the weighted average of each rung’s APY by allocation percentage. Total figures are the sum of all rungs.
Fun Fact: The CD ladder strategy became popular in the 1980s when interest rates were volatile. By staggering maturities, investors could take advantage of rising rates while maintaining regular access to portions of their principal. Some experts call it ‘liquidity with yield’ — you never have to sacrifice all your interest or all your access at once.
