Overtime and Holiday Pay Calculator

Overtime and holiday pay from regular, overtime, double-time and holiday hours, with a bonus counted in the overtime rate, per pay period and per year. How it works

Use the Overtime and Holiday Pay Calculator

Leave at 0 for none. A bonus promised in advance or tied to hours, production or attendance raises the regular rate overtime is paid on. A bonus the employer decides on its own, in amount and timing, does not (29 CFR 778.211).

About the Overtime and Holiday Pay Calculator

A week of 40 hours at $25, 10 overtime hours at time and a half and 8 holiday hours at double time pays $1,775 gross: $1,000 + $375 + $400. Each premium is hours × base rate × its multiplier, and the overtime and holiday pay calculator adds them up for the period and for the year, $92,300 over 52 weeks. You decide which hours count as overtime or holiday hours.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the base hours and the hourly rate, then the overtime, double-time and holiday hours with the multiplier for each.
  2. Pick the pay period and the work weeks per year. Hourly and daily treat the hours entered as one week.
  3. Tick Compare with Scenario B to price a second rate or schedule, or tick the federal holiday option to add the 11 federal holidays at their own multiplier.
  4. If a non-discretionary bonus was paid for the period, enter it: the page shows the regular rate with the bonus and the extra overtime it adds.
  5. Read the gross pay for the period and the year. Both update as you type.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate time and a half?
Multiply the hourly rate by 1.5, then by the overtime hours. At $20 an hour, 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours pay $800 + $150 = $950 for the week. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees must get at least time and a half for hours over 40 in a workweek.
Is holiday pay required by law?
Not under US federal law. The Department of Labor says the FLSA does not require pay for holidays off, and does not require overtime for work on a holiday unless the week goes over 40 hours. Holiday premiums and double time come from your employer’s policy, a union contract or state law, so enter the multiplier your employer actually pays.
What does the federal holiday adjustment add?
Pay for working all 11 US federal holidays on OPM’s 2026 list, 8 hours each at the Federal Holiday Rate: 11 × 8 × $25 × 1.5 = $3,300 a year on the defaults, for $95,600 in all. It comes on top of the holiday hours entered for each period, so leave one or the other at 0 if they describe the same days.
How do I compare two pay rates?
Tick Compare with Scenario B, fill in the second set of hours and rates. The same week at $30 an hour instead of $25 gives $2,130 for the week and $110,760 a year, $18,460 more than Scenario A.
Does a bonus change my overtime rate?
A non-discretionary bonus does: one promised in advance, or tied to hours, production, quality or attendance. Under 29 CFR 778.211 only a bonus the employer decides on alone, both whether and how much, near the end of the period is left out. 29 CFR 778.209 adds the bonus to the week’s earnings, divides by the hours worked and owes one-half of that hourly amount for each overtime hour. With the defaults and a $100 bonus, the regular rate is $25 + $100 ÷ 58 = $26.7241, the extra overtime is 0.5 × $1.7241 × 10 = $8.62, and the gross is $1,883.62. The tool uses (overtime multiplier − 1), which is one-half at 1.5×, and does not recalculate double-time or holiday premiums.
What is the effective hourly rate?
Gross pay for the period divided by every hour entered. The default week pays $1,775 for 58 hours, $30.60 an hour, which is above the $25 base because the premium hours pay more.
