The Formula
Number of Boards = ceil(Deck Length in inches / (Board Width + Gap Size)). Total Coverage = (Number of Boards × Board Width) + (Gap Count × Gap Size). With waste factor applied: Linear Feet Needed = Number of Boards × Deck Length × (1 + Waste % / 100).
