WhatsApp Link Generator
Build a wa.me click-to-chat link and its QR code from a phone number in international format and an optional message, percent-encoded after ?text=. How it works
Use the WhatsApp Link Generator
Full international number: country code first, then the number, 7 to 15 digits in total, without a leading 0 or 00. A leading + and spaces, dashes or brackets are removed for you.
About the WhatsApp Link Generator
A WhatsApp click-to-chat link has the form https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hello: the full phone number with its country code, digits only, then the message after ?text= in percent-encoding. Type the number as you would write it, for example +1 (555) 123-4567, and the generator removes the +, spaces, dashes and brackets, checks that 7 to 15 digits are left and builds the link.
Numbers as typed and what the generator does
| You type | Link or message |
|---|---|
| +1 (555) 123-4567 | https://wa.me/15551234567 |
| +44 7911 123456 | https://wa.me/447911123456 |
| +91 98765 43210 | https://wa.me/919876543210 |
| 07911 123456 | A number that starts with 0 is a national number. Replace that 0 with the country code, for example 44 for the UK. |
| 0044 7911 123456 | Leave out the 00 international prefix: start with the country code, for example 44 for the UK. |
| +44 (0) 7911 123456 | Remove the (0): a number written +44 (0) 7911 123456 is dialled from abroad without the 0, so use 447911123456. |
| 44+7911123456 | A + is only allowed at the very start of the number. |
| 1-800-FLOWERS | Use digits only. Spaces, dashes, dots, brackets and a leading + are removed for you; letters and other symbols are not allowed. |
| 12345 | Too short: include the country code, 7 to 15 digits in total (you typed 5). |
| 1234567890123456 | Too long: an international number has at most 15 digits including the country code (you typed 16). |
A UK number written 07911 123456 for calls inside the UK becomes 447911123456 in the link: the leading 0 is replaced by the country code 44. The generator checks the format only, not whether the number uses WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I write the phone number for a wa.me link?
- Country code first, then the rest of the number without its leading 0, with no + or 00 in front: the UK mobile 07911 123456 becomes 447911123456. You may type spaces, dashes, brackets or a leading +, because the generator removes them. This is the format the tool builds, and it refuses 07911 123456, 0044 7911 123456 and +44 (0) 7911 123456 with a message that says what to change.
- How many digits can a phone number have?
- 15 at most, country code included: that is the limit of the ITU-T E.164 numbering plan for international numbers. The generator accepts 7 to 15 digits, and 16 digits give "Too long: an international number has at most 15 digits including the country code (you typed 16)."
- How do I add a pre-filled message to a WhatsApp link?
- Type it in the Message box. It goes after ?text= with spaces, punctuation and non-English letters percent-encoded, so Café & 50% off becomes ?text=Caf%C3%A9%20%26%2050%25%20off, and a line break becomes %0A. Leave the box empty for a link with no message.
- Does the generator check that the number is on WhatsApp?
- No. It builds the link from the digits and sends no request. Test Link opens the link in a new tab so you can try it.
- Can I get a QR code for the WhatsApp link?
- Yes. Once the number is valid, the generator draws a QR code of the link and Download QR code (PNG) saves it as whatsapp-link-qr.png, 512 × 512 pixels with error correction level M. Scanning it opens the same wa.me link, message included. The code is drawn in your browser by a bundled library. If the message makes the link too long for a QR code, a note asks you to shorten it.
- Why are Copy WhatsApp Link and Test Link grayed out?
- The number is empty or not valid yet. The preview reads "Enter a valid number to see the link." until 7 to 15 digits with a country code are entered, and a message under the field says what is wrong.
