Generated Meta Tags

<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image" />
  • Only twitter:card is written so far. Add a title, description or image: X reads the twitter: tags, so set them here.

Keep twitter:card even if the page has Open Graph tags: it chooses the card layout. Handles are written with a leading @. App and player cards need further tags and are not offered here.

About the Twitter Card Generator

With every field empty the Twitter card generator writes one tag, <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image" />, and asks for a title, description or image. It offers the summary and summary_large_image cards, writes each @handle with one @, and accepts only full http:// or https:// image addresses. App and player cards need tags it does not write.

Fields and tags, in output order

FieldTag

Site (@username)twitter:site
Creator (@username)twitter:creator
Titletwitter:title
Descriptiontwitter:description
Image URLtwitter:image

twitter:card is always written. The others appear when the field holds a valid value; an image description needs a valid image URL.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between summary and summary_large_image?
The layout of the card. A summary card shows a small square thumbnail beside the title and description; a summary_large_image card shows a wide image above them. The generator labels them Summary and Summary with large image and starts on the large one. Switching changes only the twitter:card line, so pick summary when your image is a square logo and summary_large_image for a wide photo or banner.
What do twitter:site and twitter:creator hold?
An @username: the site field for the website’s account, the creator field for the author’s. Type either with or without the @; example is written @example. 1 to 15 letters, digits or underscores are accepted, so @jane.doe is refused.
Why is my card image URL refused?
The image must be a full address that starts with http:// or https://, with no spaces, backslashes or user:password@. /card.jpg gets "The image URL must be a full address starting with http:// or https://."
Can I make an app card or a player card?
No. App and player cards need further tags that this generator does not write, so only summary and summary_large_image are offered.
How long can the card title and description be?
The figures commonly cited are 70 characters for the title and 200 for the description; this tool takes them from Elementor’s card generator, as X’s own documentation could not be checked. A 71-character title gets "The title is 71 characters, over 70. It may be cut off on the card." The counters under the fields change to the error color past the limit, but the tags are still written in full, up to 1,000 characters.
