About the Age In Seconds

Age in seconds is the real time since birth, counted in whole seconds: 86,400 for every day lived. A person born on January 15, 2000 is 9,497 days and 820,540,800 seconds old on January 15, 2026, and 1,000,000,000 seconds is 11,574 days. Enter a birth date and an optional birth time and the total counts up each second, next to a calendar age, the next birthday and ages on the other planets.

Each row ends at 00:00 on the birthday, in a time zone with the same UTC offset on both dates. Leap days between the two dates are counted, so the totals are not a multiple of 31,536,000.

Age on each planet at 30 years (born January 15, 2000; 10,958 days lived)

Days lived divided by the period, to two decimals. NASA’s planetary fact sheet lists shorter periods for the outer planets (Jupiter 4331, Saturn 10,747, Uranus 30,589, Neptune 59,800 days), so those ages differ from NASA-based ones by up to about 0.7%.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter your birth date. Add a birth time if you know it; it defaults to 00:00.
  2. Leave the reference date and time blank for a live count, or type a date (and time) to see the figures for another day.
  3. Read the total seconds, the calendar breakdown, days lived, the next birthday and seconds to it, and the planetary ages.

Frequently asked questions

How many seconds old am I?
Enter your birth date and the total appears and counts up each second. For scale: someone born on January 15, 2000 is 568,080,000 seconds old at 18, 946,771,200 at 30 and 1,577,923,200 at 50, each counted to 00:00 on the birthday.
How many seconds are in a year?
31,536,000 in a year of 365 days and 31,622,400 in a leap year of 366 days. The calculator counts the real time between the two dates, so any leap days in between are included.
How old is someone who is one billion seconds old?
11,574 days, which is 31 years, 8 months, 8 days, 1 hour, 46 minutes and 40 seconds for a birth at midnight on January 1, 2000. Other birth dates give a different number of months and days.
How does the calculator count years, months and days?
It counts whole calendar years, then months, then days, from the birth date to the reference, and shows the hours, minutes and seconds left over. Born at 00:00 on January 1, 2000, the age at 00:00 on January 1, 2001 is exactly 1 year, which is 31,622,400 seconds because 2000 had 366 days. A 29 February birthday counts on 1 March in a year with no leap day, as in the Age Calculator on this site: born February 29, 2000, the age on February 28, 2001 is 11 months 30 days, and on March 1, 2001 it is 1 year.
Does the time zone or daylight saving change the result?
Dates and times are read in your browser’s time zone. The total is real elapsed time, while years, months and days are counted on the wall clock, so across a daylight-saving change the two can differ by an hour. The tables here assume a time zone with the same UTC offset on both dates.
Are my birth date and time saved or shared?
The values you type are saved in your browser’s local storage so they are there on your next visit, and Clear Saved Values removes them. A value that arrives in a link is not saved. Copy Share Link puts the birth date and times in the address of the link, so anyone who has the link can read them.
