About the Board Game Points Tracker
Set 2 to 12 players and 1 to 50 rounds, name the players and type each round’s points. The sheet totals each player, gives each a rank with the highest total 1st and names the current leader. Equal totals share a rank (1st, 1st, 3rd), and the leader among them is found by comparing scores round by round, starting from the latest round both scored in: Ana (12, 8, 15) and Ben (20, 5, 10) both total 35, and Ana is named the current leader because 15 beats 10. The table keeps players in the order you entered them.
How totals, ranks and ties come out
| Players and scores | Standing |
|---|---|
| Ana 12, 8, 15; Ben 20, 5, 10 | 1st (tied) Ana 35, 1st (tied) Ben 35 |
| Ana 12, 8, 15; Ben 20, 5, 10; Cy 10, 10, 10; Di 5, 5, 5 | 1st (tied) Ana 35, 1st (tied) Ben 35, 3rd Cy 30, 4th Di 15 |
| Ann 10, blank, 5; Bob blank, 8, 7 | 1st (tied) Bob 15, 1st (tied) Ann 15 |
| Ann -3, 2; Bob 5, 5 | 1st Bob 10, 2nd Ann -1 |
Players are listed here in standing order, the first one being the player the Current Leader box names; the tracker’s own table keeps the order they were entered in. In the third row the only round both players scored in is round 3, where Bob’s 7 beats Ann’s 5. A negative score counts against the total.
What a typed score does
| Typed score | Result |
|---|---|
| 12 | Stored as 12 |
| -9999 | Stored as -9,999 |
| 99999 | Stored as 99,999 |
| 1e3 | Stored as 1,000 |
| 100000 | Refused, nothing is stored |
| -10000 | Refused, nothing is stored |
| 3.7 | Refused, nothing is stored |
| abc | Refused, nothing is stored |
A refused score stays in the field with a message, and the totals, leader and ranks wait until every score is valid. Nothing is rounded or clamped.
How to use this tool
- Choose the number of players (2 to 12) and rounds (1 to 50), then press Start Game. Pick enough rounds: there is no way to add one later.
- Type a name for each player and a whole-number score for each round. A blank round counts as nothing.
- Read each player’s total and rank in the table, and the current leader below it. Your game is saved in this browser once you edit it.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the tracker rank players with the same total?
- Equal totals share a rank and the next rank is skipped: 1st (tied), 1st (tied), 3rd. To pick which tied player the Current Leader box names, it compares the latest round both have scored in, then the round before if that is level, and so on. If Ann scores 10, blank, 5 and Bob scores blank, 8, 7, the only shared round is 3, so Bob’s 7 puts him ahead of Ann’s 5. Players with no round in common keep their entry order.
- What scores can I enter?
- Whole numbers from -9,999 to 99,999, so penalties work. 1e3 is read as 1000. A decimal such as 3.7, a value such as 100000 or -10000, or text gets a message and is not stored or rounded, and the totals wait until it is fixed.
- How do I score a game where the lowest score wins?
- Enter the scores as usual and look for the highest rank number, not 1st. The tracker always gives the highest total 1st and names that player as Current Leader, so in golf or Hearts the winner is the player ranked last. Ties are not reversed either.
- Are my scores saved?
- Yes, in this browser’s local storage, after you edit the game. They survive a refresh. Reset zeroes the scores and keeps the players. Clear Saved Values removes the saved game and returns to the setup screen.
- Can I start a game from a link?
- Yes: ?players=Ann,Bob&scores=Ann:5,3;Bob:2,4&rounds=7 starts a game for Ann and Bob with their scores in 7 rounds. A link takes up to 12 names of up to 30 characters, and a name with any invalid score is skipped. The link writes nothing to storage until you edit the game, and your first edit then saves the linked game in place of any game already saved in this browser. If two players in a link share a name, the scores in the link go to the first of them.
