Applications
Ensuring data accuracy in software development (date handling), planning academic schedules, and understanding the precision of our modern calendar system.
The Rule
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, EXCEPT if it is divisible by 100, UNLESS it is also divisible by 400. This maintains the cycle of the seasons.
Fun Fact: Without leap years, the calendar would drift off by about 24 days every century, eventually making summer happen in December in the Northern Hemisphere!
