About the Pomodoro Timer
A Pomodoro is 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break, with a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes after every fourth one. This Pomodoro timer starts at 25:00 for Work, 05:00 for Short Break and 15:00 for Long Break. Pick each session yourself, or tick Start the next session automatically to run four Work sessions with Short Breaks between them, then a Long Break, and round again.

With Start the next session automatically ticked, the timer runs this order by itself after you press play; otherwise pick each session and press play. Four rounds at the default lengths take 130 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
- How long is a Pomodoro?
- 25 minutes of work in the usual method, followed by a 5-minute break. Here the work session can be set from 1 to 180 whole minutes.
- How long is the long break?
- 15 to 30 minutes after every four Pomodoros in the usual method. This timer’s Long Break is 15 minutes unless you change it.
- Does the timer keep time in a background tab?
- Yes. It counts down to a fixed end time on the clock, so a background tab does not lose time, and the remaining time shows in the tab title while it runs.
- How does it tell me the time is up?
- It shows a message and changes the tab title to Time's up - Work finished (or the session that ended). Turn on Play a sound when a session ends in Settings for three beeps. A system notification appears only if this site already has notification permission; the timer does not ask for it.
- Are my settings saved?
- Yes, the three lengths, the sound choice and the automatic-cycle choice are kept in this browser’s local storage. Clear Saved Values sets them back to 25, 5 and 15 minutes with the sound and the automatic cycle off.
- Does it count my Pomodoros and switch to the break by itself?
- Only with Start the next session automatically ticked in Settings. The timer then shows work session 1 of 4, 2 of 4 and so on, starts a Short Break after each Work session and a Long Break after the fourth. The count is not saved: it starts again when you reload the page, untick the option or press Clear Saved Values. A link ending in ?mode=shortBreak or ?mode=longBreak opens the timer on that session.
