Applications
Hiding spoilers in online forums or providing a very basic layer of obfuscation for text notes. It is a simple Caesar cipher with a shift of 13.
The Formula
ROT13 replaces a letter with the 13th letter after it in the alphabet. Because there are 26 letters, applying ROT13 twice restores the original text.
Fun Fact: ROT13 is its own inverse! This makes it a popular example for teaching basic cryptographic principles in computer science.
