Strikethrough Text

Cross out text in nine styles, from strikethrough and double to slash, wavy and underline, made of combining Unicode marks, then copy it into a bio or post. How it works

Use the Strikethrough Text

Line style

S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶

The line is made of combining characters. Some apps and form fields hide them, so check the pasted result.

About the Strikethrough Text

“Strike this out” becomes S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶: the generator puts a combining long stroke overlay (U+0336) after each of its 15 characters, which makes 30 code points. Slash uses U+0337, Underline U+0332, and six more styles use other marks, from a double stroke to a dot below. The mark is part of the text, so it survives copy and paste, but an app can hide it.

“Hi there” is 8 characters, so each result has 8 marks and 16 code points; Double strikethrough adds two marks per character, 16 marks and 24 code points. How a mark looks, and whether neighboring marks join into one line, depends on the font.

What counts as one character

The tool puts one mark after each grapheme cluster, the unit a reader counts as one character, so an accented letter, a flag or a joined emoji gets one mark, not one per code point. Empty input gives empty output, never a lone mark.

How to use this tool

  1. Type or paste text in Input Text.
  2. Choose one of the nine styles, or copy any line from the All styles list under the result.
  3. Press the copy button at the top right of the result.
  4. Paste it where you need it and check that the app shows the marks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I strikethrough text where there is no formatting button?
Type the text here, choose a style and press the copy button. The line is made of combining characters that sit after each letter, so it is part of the text and pastes into a bio, a comment or a plain-text list. Each character costs two in a field with a character limit: “Strike this out” is 15 letters and 15 marks.
Why does my strikethrough not show up or look broken?
Combining marks need support from the app and the font. Some apps and form fields hide them, and in some fonts the line sits off center or breaks between letters. The page reminds you to check the pasted result for this reason.
What is the difference between Strikethrough, Slash and Underline?
Strikethrough adds U+0336, a long stroke overlay. Slash adds U+0337, a short diagonal solidus overlay. Underline adds U+0332, a low line below the letters. All are added the same way, one after each character.
Can I get a double, wavy or dotted strikethrough?
Yes. Double strikethrough adds U+0336 twice after each character, Short stroke U+0335, Wavy the tilde overlay U+0334, Overline U+0305, Dotted the dot below U+0323 and Wave the tilde below U+0330. The All styles list shows your text in all nine with a copy button each. $49.99 in Double strikethrough is $̶̶4̶̶9̶̶.̶̶9̶̶9̶̶, 6 characters plus 12 marks.
Does it work on emoji and accented letters?
Yes. The tool counts grapheme clusters, so 😀 becomes the emoji plus one mark (2 code points) and a flag, a joined family emoji or a letter with an accent also get one mark. Splitting by code point would cut those characters in half.
Is this the same as strikethrough in Word or a Markdown editor?
No. Those apply formatting to text that stays plain underneath. This tool inserts extra characters, so a plain search for the word may not match the marked text, and removing the line means deleting the marks. Where real formatting exists, use it: in Google Docs press Alt + Shift + 5 on Windows or ⌘ + Shift + X on a Mac, and in GitHub Markdown wrap the words in two tildes, ~~like this~~.
