Upside Down Text
Flip text upside down and reverse it with look-alike Unicode characters for a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9 and common punctuation, then copy and paste it. How it works
Use the Upside Down Text
All 12 characters have an upside-down form.
Letters, digits and common punctuation are turned into look-alike Unicode characters and the text is read from the other end, as it would be if you turned the page half a turn. How a character looks depends on the font of the app you paste it into. The digit 2 uses the Hangul letter ᄅ (U+1105) as its look-alike, and some fonts draw two of them in a row joined into one block.
About the Upside Down Text
Upside-down text swaps each character for a Unicode look-alike turned through 180 degrees and reverses the order, so Hello, World! becomes ¡plɹoM 'ollǝH. The generator flips a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9 and 27 punctuation marks; anything else is copied as typed and listed. Tick Keep the original order to turn each character without reversing the line: Hǝllo' Moɹlp¡.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type upside down text?
- Type or paste your text in the Original Text box. The flipped text appears in the Upside Down box; press Copy and paste it into a message, a bio or a post. It is ordinary Unicode text, not an image or a font.
- Why is upside-down text written backwards?
- Turning a line through 180 degrees puts its last letter first, so the generator reverses the order as well as flipping each character. Read with the screen turned round, the words come out in the original order. To turn the letters and keep them in place, tick Keep the original order.
- Which characters cannot be flipped upside down?
- Letters of other alphabets (Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese), emoji and symbols such as @, # and % have no look-alike in the map. They are copied as typed, in reversed position, and the page counts them: café 😀 Привет gives "7 of 11 characters have no upside-down form".
- Do accented letters flip?
- Yes. The base letter flips and the accent stays on it, so café becomes ǝ́ɟɐɔ. A letter typed with a separate combining accent is flipped the same way.
- Why do some flipped letters show as boxes?
- The look-alikes come from phonetic and symbol blocks of Unicode (ɐ, ǝ, ʇ, ⅁). An app whose font has no glyph for one shows a box or a different shape, so the result can look different from app to app.
