Applications

Plan a household move by estimating the storage unit size needed for your furniture, boxes, and large items. Compare recommended sq ft ranges against standard unit sizes (5x5, 5x10, 10x10, 10x15, 10x20, 10x30) to budget accurately and avoid overpaying for unused space or running out of room.

Storage Unit Sizing

Estimates a recommended square footage using a base footprint for your home size (studio through 5+ bedroom), plus an additional 25 sq ft per extra room, per-large-item multipliers (e.g. sofa = 25 sq ft, refrigerator = 35 sq ft), and ~3 cu ft per box. The final range is 85-120% of the raw estimate to allow for aisle space and packing inefficiency.

Fun Fact: The first standardized self-service storage facility opened in 1958 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The industry has since grown to over 50,000 facilities across the United States, holding an estimated 2.3 billion square feet of rentable space.
