Frequently asked questions
- What time zone is India in?
- Asia/Kolkata, UTC+5:30 in both January and July, so there is no daylight-saving change: at 12:00 UTC it is 17:30 there. Some browsers list the older spelling Asia/Calcutta; a search for India, Mumbai, Kolkata or Calcutta finds it either way.
- Why does a card say Tomorrow or Yesterday?
- The label compares the city's date with yours. At 12:00 UTC on January 15 it is already 01:00 on January 16 in Auckland (UTC+13), so a visitor in London sees Tomorrow on the Auckland card.
- Does the world clock follow daylight saving time?
- Yes, with the rules in your browser's time-zone database: New York moves from UTC-5 in January to UTC-4 in July 2026 and Sydney from UTC+11 to UTC+10, while Tokyo, Dubai and Kolkata stay the same. Keep your browser updated so its rules are current.
- What does the DST badge on a card mean?
- That the city is on daylight saving time right now. The clock compares the current offset with the zone's offsets on 1 January and 1 July and shows DST when it is above the smaller one, so it works for both hemispheres. On January 15, 2026 Sydney shows it (UTC+11 against its standard UTC+10) and New York does not; on July 15, 2026 New York does (UTC-4 against UTC-5). Lord Howe Island shifts by 30 minutes, and the tooltip says so.
- Can I add EST or PST?
- Search finds the zone by its abbreviation, so EST finds New York and PST finds Los Angeles, but EST, PST and offsets such as +05:30 are not zones themselves, and a link that names one is ignored. A card always uses a city's zone, which follows daylight saving.
- How many cities can I add?
- Up to 20, and at least one always stays. The list is saved in this browser, and Clear Saved Values brings back New York, London and Tokyo.
