Screen Recorder

Record a screen, window or browser tab with its audio, and your microphone if you tick it, for up to 10 minutes or 100 MB, then download the file. How it works

Use the Screen Recorder

Preview will appear here

Pick the screen, window or tab in your browser's prompt. Sound comes from what the browser shares with the capture. The microphone is recorded only when "Include microphone" is ticked (it is off by default); the browser then asks for permission when you press Start Recording.

About the Screen Recorder

A screen recording here stops by itself at 10 minutes or 100 MB, whichever comes first, and keeps everything recorded up to that point. You choose a screen, window or tab in the browser's own prompt, with its sound and, if you tick Include microphone, your voice; the file type, such as video/webm or video/mp4, is whatever your browser's recorder picks, and the page shows it with the size and length before you download.

Recorded type and the file extension of the download

Type the recorder reportsShown on the page asSaved as
video/webm;codecs=vp9video/webm (.webm).webm
video/webm;codecs=vp8,opusvideo/webm (.webm).webm
video/mp4;codecs=avc1video/mp4 (.mp4).mp4
video/x-matroska;codecs=avc1video/x-matroska (.mkv).mkv
video/oggvideo/ogg (.ogv).ogv
video/quicktimevideo/quicktime (.mov).mov
(empty)(.webm).webm

The codec part after the semicolon is dropped from the name. Which type you get depends on the browser; the page does not ask for one.

Frequently asked questions

Does the screen recorder record my microphone?
Only when you tick Include microphone, which is off by default and not remembered. The browser then asks for the microphone after the screen prompt, and the page mixes your voice with the audio of the shared tab, window or system into one track. If the microphone is refused or missing, nothing is recorded and the message names the microphone; untick the box to record the screen without it. While recording, the page says which sound is included, and without shared audio or a microphone the recording is silent.
How long can a screen recording be?
10 minutes or 100 MB, whichever comes first. The size is checked as the browser hands over each chunk, about once a second, so a take that hits the size limit can run one more second past 100 MB. The page then says Recording stopped at the 100 MB size limit. Everything recorded up to that point is ready to download.
Does it save screen recordings as WebM or MP4?
Whichever your browser's recorder produces. After you stop, a line such as Your browser recorded video/webm (.webm), 5.3 MB, 01:12. names the type, and the download gets the matching extension, for example screen-recording-2026-10-12.webm for a take made on October 12, 2026.
Can I set the recording quality?
Yes, as a video bitrate: High asks for about 8 Mbps, Medium about 4 Mbps and Low about 1.5 Mbps; Browser default leaves it to the browser. At a steady 8 Mbps the 100 MB limit comes after about 1:44, at 4 Mbps 3:29 and at 1.5 Mbps 9:19, and the page shows that figure before you start. The browser treats the bitrate as a target, so a mostly still screen uses less. The picture size is that of the shared screen, window or tab.
Is the screen recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The take is held in this tab's memory, about its own size, until you download it, start another recording or leave the page. Starting a new take keeps the old one until the new capture has opened and recording has begun, so a cancelled prompt does not cost you the last recording.
Why does screen recording not work on my phone?
MDN lists screen capture (getDisplayMedia) as limited availability, and it works only on secure https pages. When it fails the page says why: sharing cancelled or blocked, nothing available to share, the source held by another program, a page that is not secure, or a browser without screen capture or MediaRecorder.
