About the Word to Pages Converter
1,000 words is about 4 pages double-spaced and 2 pages single-spaced in 12 pt Arial with 1-inch margins on a US Letter sheet. This words to pages calculator reworks the estimate for five fonts, sizes from 10 to 16 pt, four line spacings, margins from 0.5 to 1.5 inches and five page sizes: US Letter, A4 and 5 × 8, 6 × 9 or 7 × 10 inch book pages. Set Direction to Pages to words to go the other way: 5 double-spaced pages hold about 1,250 words.

Frequently asked questions
- How many pages is 1,000 words?
- 4.0 pages double-spaced and 2.0 single-spaced in 12 pt Arial with 1-inch margins. At 1.5 spacing it is 2.9 pages. In Times New Roman, which fits a little more on a line, double spacing gives 3.8 pages.
- How many words is a 5 page paper?
- About 1,250 words double-spaced in 12 pt Arial, or 2,500 single-spaced. In Times New Roman 12 pt about 1,300 words fill 5 double-spaced pages. Pages to words gives these figures directly.
- Does the font change the page count?
- Yes. 1,000 words double-spaced at 12 pt come to 3.7 pages in Calibri, 3.8 in Times New Roman, 4.0 in Arial, 4.4 in Georgia and 4.7 in Verdana. The font factors behind these are estimates of how wide each typeface runs, not measurements of your file.
- Does it work for A4 paper?
- Yes: pick A4 as the page size. A4 (210 × 297 mm) is slightly narrower and taller than US Letter, and with 1-inch margins its text area is about 4% larger, so 1,000 words double-spaced in 12 pt Arial come to 3.9 pages instead of 4.0.
- How many words fit on a book page?
- In 12 pt Arial, double-spaced with 1-inch margins, about 77 words on a 5 × 8 inch page, 120 on 6 × 9 and 171 on 7 × 10. Books are usually set tighter, so change the settings to match: Times New Roman 11 pt, single-spaced, with 0.75-inch margins gives about 360 words on a 6 × 9 page. These are the same rule-of-thumb figures scaled by page area, not a typesetting estimate.
- Why does my word processor show a different number of pages?
- The calculator does not lay out your text. Headings, space between paragraphs, block quotes, lists, images and footnotes all add pages that a plain word count cannot see, and a title page or reference list adds more.
